Born from a united Vision
Origins of World Horse Day
Mongolia’s Leadership
His Excellency Khürelsükh Ukhnaa, President of Mongolia, became a founding visionary of World Horse Day after taking decisive action in 2015 to end the cruel export of live horses. Deeply moved by what he witnessed and guided by a personal commitment to protect Mongolia’s horses, he pledged his support to the Horse Heaven initiative, telling Naraa, “If you don’t give up, I won’t give up.” It was His Excellency who carried this mission to the United Nations—an act that ultimately led to the UN’s formal declaration of World Horse Day.

Where the Journey Began
Naranbadrakh “Naraa” Batkhuu, founder of Mongolia’s first horse sanctuary, began this journey through years of rescuing horses and advocating for a national commitment to protect them. His grassroots efforts, born from compassion and a deep understanding of the horse–human bond, became the foundation of a broader vision for change. It was Naraa’s unwavering mission that ultimately earned the support of His Excellency Khürelsükh Ukhnaa – and together, this partnership set the path that led to the United Nations’ recognition of World Horse Day.
